The big difference is that a gas t19 the 18 and NP 435 have wide ratio transmission while the 84 and later t19 have the close ratio gearing. I have personally seen more ZF 5 bell housings cracked than I have seen with internal problems. Most of them were in the area where the "bell housing" attaches to the "transmission case".
